Van Window and Skylight Options

Deciding on the windows that you need fitting can be tricky, sometimes your layout will dictate the windows you can have and sometimes you can get really creative… We can help with all of these options.

We have these pages to help:

Smaller vans tend to stick to what we call bonded windows. They are sized to suit the vehicle they are made for, they are made of a single skin of glass and are usually tinted, although you can get clear versions if you really want them.

In the UK, we refer to the sides of the vehicle as:

  • Off Side = Drivers Side = Right Side
  • Near Side = Passenger Side = Left Side

As we go back down the van we refer to the panels:

  • P1 = Panel 1
  • P2 = Panel 2
  • P3 = Panel 3 (Only Larger Vans)

When you get to the back:

  • Barn Doors (Are a pair that open outwards)
  • Tailgate (is single that lifts up)

Small Van Options

Small vans tend to have a pressed insert that will take 2 windows on each side. We try and use this graphic as a way of identifying the windows you need:

Bonded Window Positions and Options in Transporter Size Van
  • 1 = Drivers Side Front Panel (OS / P1)
    • Usually opposite the sliding door (unless you have a twin slider)
  • 2 = Drivers Side Rear Quarter (OS / P2)
  • 4 = Tailgate or Barn Doors
  • 5 = Passenger Side Rear Quarter (NS / P2)
  • 6 = Passenger Side Front Panel (NS / P1)
    • Usually a sliding door

For example, In a Typical Transporter conversion, we would be looking at a slide-opening window into OSP1, a Fixed into NSP1 Sliding Door and a pair of Barn Doors or a Tailgate

Larger Van Options

With a larger van, you can have more choices. Bonded windows (single-skin glass) are still a very popular choice, but you can also go for caravan-style windows (usually plastic, double-glazed). Check out our guide to the window styles here.

We tend to use this map to locate the windows you require:

Bonded Window Positions and Options in Larger Size Van
  • 1 = Drivers Side Front Panel (OS / P1)
    • Usually opposite the sliding door (unless you have a twin slider)
  • 2 = Drivers Side Mid Panel (OS / P2)
  • 3 = Drivers Side Rear Panel (OS / P3)
  • 4 = Barn Doors OS
  • 5 = Barn Doors NS
  • 6 = Passenger Side Rear Panel (NS / P3)
  • 7 = Passenger Side Mid Panel (NS / P2)
  • 8 = Passenger Side Front Panel (NS / P1)
    • Usually a sliding door

There are pros and cons to each style of window. We can help guide you….
